VINEYARDS AND WINERY

Organic viticulture demands precision and consistency. At La Commanderie de la Bargemone we monitor our processes closely all year round, both in the vineyard and the winery. Our grapes are harvested at night to preserve freshness.
The grapes are cooled again and pressed. The musts are then vatted and cold-soaked for five days at temperatures of 2°C, before commencing fermentation at 16°C. Each variety is vinified separately. Wines are blended in December and bottled early the following year.

VITICULTURE AND WINEMAKING
Organic viticulture demands precision and consistency. At La Bargemone we monitor our processes closely throughout the year, both in the vineyard and the winery. Grapes are harvested at night to preserve freshness.
The fruit is chilled again before being crushed. The must is then vatted and cold-soaked for 5 days at 2ºC before starting fermentation at 16ºC. Each variety is vinified separately. Wines are blended in December, and bottling starts at the beginning of the new year.

2021 HARVEST
A memorable feature of the 2021 harvest season at La Bargemone was its duration: possibly the longest in living memory. Picking started on September 9th with the Sauvignon Blancs, and finished on October 9th with the last few bins of Counoise.
The hot, sunny summer days, cool nights and superb weather towards the end of the season led to beautifully ripe fruit. We were fortunate that our vines were relatively unaffected by frost and escaped the worst of the weather. As a result, 2021 yields are good.

TASTING NOTES
Very pale rose pink colour and an expressive nose of tropical fruit and white flowers. A vibrant attack leads to a nicely rounded palate and excellent persistence of flavour on the finish.

TERROIR
The vineyards at La Bargemone enjoy the benefits of a classic Provençal terroir: stony clay and limestone soils promote healthy ripening, while a sunny, dry Mediterranean climate swept by the Mistral wind keeps the vines cool and protects them from disease. The high-altitude location means temperatures are lower and the growing season longer than elsewhere: harvests start some 2 weeks later than in other vineyards. The terroir yields well-coloured wines with good flavour concentration.
